This is not the correct way to determine relief. You must first mark the spot where the club is grounded to determine relief. Only after than can you take a club length.
Of course for people who don’t have the money to buy a new club, I’d use a foot wedge, kick it out on to the fairway then it take my shot and putt for birdie. No penalty stroke since who in their right mind would put a cart path on a beautiful golf course.
our local course has 6 inch wide ditches along the length of the cart paths and they are about 4 inches deep. Is the ditch an intergral part of the path and a free drop or is it considered part of the course?
I understand how nearest point of relief works, in that it’s not your choice. However could you not drop on the fairway side here if you chose to take your shot with your feet still on the path, so your drop is not so far off your original lie?
Whether you could or not, hitting off a concrete path that can smash your club and wrists into pieces, or has a fairly high percentage of coming off thin, does not seem like good course management at all. Learn to play a low hook, or take your medicine
i usually take relief behind a tree i just find it rude to take care of your business in front of other people
