he was here many years ago when there were 2 18-hole golf courses. now, there’s only one. but the golf course management was very good. cow-grass fairway kept meticulously neat and lush. the greens were cut smooth and even. and the surrounding vegetation was nurtured with much care. terrain was a challenge for any average golfer; water and bunkers abounding. it was a pleasant morning game playing in this commando course.
one time she asked him, “why people like to play golf? hitting a tiny ball into the tiny hole, wasting half the day, chasing the ball around in hectares of field, under the hot sun, spending big dollars on the clubs, or the green fees…. ?”

sometimes, from totally extreme ends of a situation, a common point can be reached. just like the “TONGREN” GUA – people coming together. but to come together with the same stand is not by coincident. there would be clashes, pointed arguments and discords between the two extreme entities…. just like what’s said in the GUA.
13. 同人卦 (天火同人)
同人原本為與人相見、合會之義。現今則多引申作相同、和同。
TONGREN = meeting up with people, people coming together
這也就是《周禮》記載的「朝覲會同」，周王會見諸侯之禮。「會同」是周王會見順服的諸侯以商討如何討伐不順服者，通常是在四季的「朝宗覲遇」（即覲見）之後在國外設壇，會見諸侯並分配任務，但亦有於國內會見者。
it actually depicts the meeting of the ZHOU emperor with his dukes, to discuss how to wage battles against those dukedoms not submitting to the emperor.
13. TONGREN GUA
同人于野，亨，利涉大川，利君子貞。
與人會見於野外，亨通。利於涉水過大河，可以涉險。利於君子的貞定。
Meeting up in the countryside, smooth sailing. good to travel, adventure. he who perseveres prevails.
– why countryside? it signifies preferably things should be done according to one’s will. but in the real world, one often times has to seek the opinion of the other; like going all the way to the countryside to meet up with someone who has a say in how things should be done.
初九，同人于門，无咎。
與人會面於門外，沒有罪咎。
1st-9: meeting up outside the door, not guilty.
– try to come to an agreement outside the door(just touch on things superficially; the first step to negotiate for an agreement)
六二，同人于宗，吝。
夏宗之禮上行會同之禮，有悔恨。
6-2: meeting up during the emperor’s summer conference, without regret.
– if it didn’t work in 1st-9, then have to meet in the emperor’s summer conference to settle issues).
九三，伏戎于莽，升其高陵，三歲不興。
埋伏於草木叢裡，登到高地上。三年都無法興兵動武。
9-3: the enemy’s army lay ambush in the shrubs, rising up high to survey the battlefield. signifying a very formidable enemy, hence should avoid going to war with it, for 3 years.
– negotiate as an underdog, better not. not until you have buildt up your strength.
九四，乘其墉，弗克攻。吉。
築高城牆，讓敵人攻打不下。吉。
9-4: double up the defending wall’s height, to resist the advance of the enemy. auspicious.
– two persons of different thots will always try to win over the other in an argument.
九五，同人，先號咷而後笑，大師克，相遇。
與人會同，先是驚恐而痛哭，後來因有轉機而大笑。大軍將敵人打敗，終於雙方相遇。
9-5: meeting up with people, intimidated and cry out loud in the beginning, but later lol. the army has won the battle, the divisions meeting up for victory celebration.
– in a negotiation, must be prepared to face difficulties, but when agreement is reached, everybody will have the last laugh.
上九，同人于郊，无悔。
在郊外與人會盟，無所後悔。
top-9: meeting up in the suburb, no regret
– although one wants to be alone, but he still has to meet up with others in real life, else he would be regretting not doing so. to live is after all a matter of give and take, but not within oneself.
