  1. This is not what Hogan or Snead did. This shaft should be angled along the outside of the right hip. Both Hogan and Snead would remain on this shaft throughout most of the backswing and the right hip would not move away till the start of the downswing. They never moved the hip back toward the target as they were starting their backswing. Wayne DeFrancesco has some great youtube videos on this

  2. He also says that we have been taught to just turn on the downswing and not move laterally. The lateral move has been taught as a key component of the classical swing. The lateral move has been taught by Bob Toski, Mike Austin, Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan, Claude Harmon, Jackie Burke, Jim Mclean, Jim Flick, Jack Grout, Harvey Penick and many more. The no lateral move is more of a modern idea.

  3. You read Bob Toski’s book? Remember the barrel and him smashing through it!

  4. I think I remember it from a Golf Magazine ‘tip’. But, I’m sure it was based on Toski’s idea. Did Toski do ‘How to Feel a Real Golf Swing’ w/ Davis Love, Jr.? I get my classic swing gurus mixed up, sometimes.

  5. Yes they did write a book together:) Smashing through the barrel is a really great image

  6. That’s it, then. I don’t disagree with Foley in his assertion that the players he mentions didn’t move their center of mass radically away from the target, and then have to make a huge move to get back to the ball. They shift into the right post. But, as he points out, they didn’t get their chest and head over their right foot in doing so. Foley’s not a quack. But, the exaggerated feels he talks about certainly make you think. I think he’s helped his Tour pros quite a bit.

  7. I have a few problems with Foley’s ideas. It seems he has seen photos of certain positions Hogan got into with not understanding what point in the swing it was taken. For example Hogan absolutely did not move his right hip toward the target on the backswing. Fit you put a shaft against and angled with the outside of his right hip, Hogan’s hip would not move off it until the beginning of the downswing. With the driver had a large move to the right with his center and head.

  8. To each his own, but I’d have to completely disagree about Hogan’s driver swing. He’s well behind the ball, and he shifts pretty aggressively to the left in the down swing, but he didn’t have any significant move off the ball (to the right). Ben Hogan Driver DSL and FO 1953

  9. Hogan had one of the most amazing shifts left in the games history. I will check out the 1953 footage thanks my friend

  10. I wouldnt say Foley doesn’t understand. The man is the most well read and possibly the smartest instructor on tour.

  11. I am only going by what he is saying. He is advocating several things in this video and saying that Hogan, Sam Snead and Jack did them. Foley states “as they are turning their body (backswing) they are building up pressure in their quad (left leg) and they are moving away from that pole (right pole on the backswing).” He is saying that the right hip is moving toward the target during the BS. This is not what you will see on video analysis. Their right hip does not move until the start of the DS

  12. i began using foley techniques at the same time as tiger, and now I am hitting the ball far better than tiger and I’m going to get more major wins than him.

  13. I still dont see it, he said think back to when hogan and snean would get some pressure on their left quad but the video just before he said that was of snead with his left foot off the ground and his weight on his right side.

  14. Contrast 1:08 with 1:39. In the second one you can see that his hip moves slightly to his right and then his left hip rotates through to the right too so there is a significant weight shift to the right despite him saying that “they are moving away from the [right side on the back swing]”. He’s kind of saying stack and tilt but he’s not demonstrating it.

  15. Check out Shawn Clement. One of the best golf instructors…. He will have more detailed on this… Search for Clement Braced tilt….

  16. What teaching pros tell and what they demonstrate is rarely the same … But I think he’s confident that he does what he explains. My eyes tell a different story

  17. dont agree with this at all, tiger was clearly swinging his absolute best in 2000 with butch harmon when he won the tiger slam. the swing tiger had in 2000 has the big weight tranfer and it led a lot of wins.

  18. JESUS CHRIST IS GOD, that’s clear. He said: I and the Father are one. Seek JESUS CHRIST and get saved !
