  1. on a regular golf swing do you have to lift the left heel or you leave the left heel on the ground ? Thank you

  2. Most people today keep the front heel on the ground. However, if you look at the greatest players from the past the front foot naturally comes off the ground as you rotate the weight back. It is a personal preference.

  3. I apologize RW…You did say SOMETHING favorable about Mr Ballard…I thought you were totally disrespecting him. Please accept my sincere apology.

  4. the forgotten key point in the golf swing, thumb it, i’m going that away……

  5. Sorry Mr.Ballard.The clubface is controlled by the BACK of the left hand NOT the elbow. You can turn your hand WITHOUT moving the elbow and the clubface will follow the back of your hand NOT the elbow. As a matter of fact I will go out on a limb and say that MOST if not ALL pros control the face of the club by thinking about the position of the back of the left hand NOT the clubface itself “KEEP YOUR GOLFING MIND IN YOUR HANDS”!! The Golfing Machine 101. “Thumbing a ride” not elbowing a ride:)

  6. the back of the left hand controls the clubface ..PERIOD!!! I wouldn’t watch his cd if he paid me . You and ballard should buy a little book called “The Golfing Machine” and truly learn what the golf swing is all about, I never hook by the way. The golfing machine has made that possible. Ballard is a method teacher. His method works for some. The Golfing machine is NOT a METHOD!! It gives you the necessary information to find your own game .

  7. Your elbows are at the end of the bone that connects to your shoulder. There are no moving pieces in the elbow to allow for any pronation or supination, but there are in your shoulder joints (rotator cuffs). So the idea of keeping your elbow pointing at the ground is not necessarily bad advice, but it is not controlled by the elbow. It’s 100% controlled by the shoulder. If you’re going to try to do what he’s suggesting, focus on what your shoulder joint is doing, not the elbow.

  8. Name any decent ball striker who was a proponent of the Golfing Machine. I cannot think of any who played at a high level for along period of time, but I can name a bunch who played for years who used Ballard’s teaching principles (Sutton, Strange and Colbert to name three). He knows his stuff.

  9. Most players at that level do not think about their hands at all during the swing. And no good athlete who swings a racket or club at a ball thinks of only what the hands are doing. They cannot do anything without incorporating the other elements of the body. The elbow thought is a reference only since Jimmy teaches a body movement. In all of his teaching he says that you cannot focus on the hands and arms without thinking about what the larger muscles of the body are doing.
